Why this journal exists
Most venues are built for large, polished, well-funded studies. A great deal of genuine knowledge falls outside that shape: a short proof, a single careful measurement, a negative result, a benchmark that never found a home, a student project that answered a real question.
AOOPS exists to publish that work. We publish short, self-contained, checkable results in artificial intelligence, physics and mathematics, without author fees.
Scope
Artificial intelligence
- Learning algorithms, architectures and training methods
- Evaluation, benchmarks and reproducibility studies
- Interpretability, robustness and failure analysis
- Applications with a clearly stated methodological contribution
Physics
- Measurements, instruments and experimental technique
- Computational and theoretical results, including negative ones
- Data analysis and simulation methods
- Careful observations from amateur or student laboratories
Mathematics
- Short theorems, lemmas and constructions with complete proofs
- Counterexamples and corrections to published results
- Computational and experimental mathematics
- Expository notes that clarify a known result
Interdisciplinary work is welcome where it has a concrete method or result — machine learning applied to physical data, or probabilistic methods applied to a combinatorics problem.
What we will not publish
- Claims that cannot be checked against data, proof or method
- Work that refuses to engage with existing literature or with criticism
- Plagiarised content, or AI-generated text without disclosure
- Content that is unlawful, defamatory, or that harasses individuals
We say this plainly because a journal that publishes unverifiable claims stops being useful to everyone else who submits to it.
How review works
AOOPS uses a publish-then-review model, also called open post-publication review.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Editorial screening | An editor checks scope, completeness, clarity and integrity — plagiarism screening, author consent, conflicts of interest. This is not peer review and may result in rejection. |
| 2. Publication | Accepted work is posted with a DOI, typically within 10 working days of submission, labelled Awaiting review. |
| 3. Open review | We invite referees with relevant expertise. Reviews are published alongside the article and it is relabelled Reviewed. |
| 4. Revision | Authors may post a revised version responding to the reviews. The original version remains permanently available. |
Before you cite. Content labelled Awaiting review has had editorial screening only. It has not been independently refereed. Cite it with that in mind.
Editorial board
AOOPS is independently published and is not affiliated with any university or research institute. Members are listed with full names and affiliations once confirmed; we are actively recruiting editors who hold an institutional affiliation, in all three subject areas.
